Emerging Church leader promotes lifestyle rather than faith

A Christian broadcaster claims that Emerging Church leader Brian McLaren is fulfilling the biblical prophecy that in the latter days men will not put up with sound doctrine – according to II Timothy 4:3.  Brian McLaren recently addressed 650 Anglican bishops attending the Lambeth Conference, a meeting he says was characterized by "a loving atmosphere" and "a deep spirituality centered in Bible study, worship, and prayer." McLaren tells ChristianToday.com that he envisions a new era for Christianity, which "is more about the Christian way of life than it is about a rigid and polemicized systems of belief."

Kent comments:

Except for the possible implication that the "latter days" began recently, I must agree with a Christian broadcaster.  While everyone likes the sound of a "loving atmosphere" we must wonder:  don't these "emerging" people realize that we would have no idea exactly what a "loving atmosphere" is apart from some well-understood "system of belief"?

Spanish parliament to extend rights to apes
Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:27pm EDT
By Martin Roberts

MADRID (Reuters) - Spain's parliament voiced its support on Wednesday for the rights of great apes to life and freedom in what will apparently be the first time any national legislature has called for such rights for non-humans. . . Philosophers Peter Singer and Paola Cavalieri founded the Great Ape Project in 1993, arguing that "non-human hominids" like chimpanzees, gorillas, orang-utans and bonobos should enjoy the right to life, freedom and not to be tortured.

Kent comments:

How about the rights of us human hominids?  Don't we have a right not to be tortured by the act of human philosophers making baboons out of themselves?
