Hermeneutics - Lesson 3

Hermeneutics - The Science of Interpretation

Chapter 3

  1. Stein affirms (p. 61) that the Holy Spirit was (and is) intimately involved “throughout the entire process of interpreting the Bible.” List (and explain, if necessary) three ways the Spirit was/is involved—in your own language as much as possible
  2. Define “infallibility” and “inerrant.” Indicate how they are similar and different.
  3. Define/describe “canon.”
  4. Stein reviews important factors involved in determining which books were part of the New Testament canon. Identify and explain these factors.
  5. Can an unbeliever “understand” the gospel message? What is Stein’s position and how does he support his view? Do you find his ideas convincing?
